About me
Dear reader,
I’m Mara, but some people call me Marita or Maravilla. I was born in 2000 in Quito, Ecuador, and my love for music started early. I studied piano for nine years at the Conservatorio Superior Nacional de Música in Quito, where I graduated in 2016. Later, I earned a Bachelor’s in Musical Arts with honors (Summa Cum Laude) at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (2023), focusing on Composition for Contemporary Media, and a Master’s in Composition for Audiovisual Media at the Katarina Gurska Institute in Madrid (2024).
I have a deep love for composing for piano and strings. There’s something about their sound that feels like home, and I incorporate them into almost everything I write. My experience includes working on several short films: “Cuando los cerdos vuelen” (2018), my cousin’s graduation project; “¿Para qué están las amigas?” (2023); and “Adara” (2024), which won the Best Music award at IRTVE, a recognition I proudly shared with my talented colleagues Martín García and Joaquín Lorenzo.
Currently, I’m based in Madrid, continuing my journey as a composer, arranger, and educator. If you’re looking for someone to bring your vision to life through music, let’s connect. I’m always excited to collaborate with passionate creators on inspiring projects.
Best regards,
Mara Villavicencio
